5/18/2013 Carlos Villanueva, P (ChC) When Matt Garza comes off the disabled list Tuesday, Villanueva will head to the bullpen. The Cubs announced the shuffle Saturday.

Analysis: Villanueva got off to a strong start for the Cubs but has struggled recently. Over his first four starts, Villanueva (1-3, 3.93 ERA) gave up five earned runs, but he has allowed 18 over his last four. He hasn't won since April 18. In his last start, he allowed 12 hits and seven earned against Colorado.
5/17/2013 Hideki Okajima, P (Oak) The A's promoted Okajima from Triple-A Sacramento and designated right-hander Chris Resop for assignment.

Analysis: The 37-year-old Okajima was 0-1 with a 2.16 ERA in 14 games with the River Cats. He last appeared in the major leagues with the Boston Red Sox in 2011.
5/17/2013 Raul Valdes, P (Phi) The Phillies have recalled right-hander B.J. Rosenberg from Triple-A Lehigh Valley and sent Valdes down.

Analysis: Valdes was 1-0 with a 7.65 ERA in 10 appearances out of the bullpen.
5/17/2013 B.J. Rosenberg, P (Phi) The Phillies have recalled Rosenberg from Triple-A Lehigh Valley and sent left-hander Raul Valdes down.

Analysis: Rosenberg was 1-2 with a 6.12 ERA in 22 relief appearances for Philadelphia last season. He was 1-3 and had a 4.30 ERA in seven starts at Lehigh this season.
5/17/2013 Jared Hughes, P (Pit) Right-hander Jose Contreras was placed on the bereavement list Friday by the Pittsburgh Pirates and Hughes was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis to take his spot in the bullpen.

Analysis: Hughes pitched 6 2-3 scoreless innings in six appearances with Indianapolis. He began the season with the Pirates and was 1-2 with a 4.61 ERA in 13 games.
5/17/2013 Jose Contreras, P (Pit) Contreras was placed on the bereavement list Friday by the Pittsburgh Pirates and right-hander Jared Hughes was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis to take his spot in the bullpen.

Analysis: Contreras must remain inactive for at least three days but cannot stay on the bereavement list for more than seven. He is 0-0 with a 4.50 ERA over five appearances this season.
5/17/2013 Yu Darvish, P (Tex) Manager Ron Washington was not about to question himself Friday over Darvish's recent workload. Especially since Darvish felt fine after throwing a career-high 130 pitches Thursday night against the Detroit Tigers.

Analysis: Washington said Darvish felt fine Friday and went through his normal exercise routine. Darvish's next scheduled start is Tuesday against Oakland.
5/17/2013 Vidal Nuno, P (NYY) The Yankees recalled Nuno from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, joining the Yankees rotation.

Analysis: The move comes after New York placed Andy Pettitte on the 15-day disabled list Friday.
5/17/2013 Shane Victorino, RF (Bos) Victorino was also out after hurting his back the night before at Tampa Bay.

Analysis: Victorino made a tough catch at the warning track in the eighth inning as he collided with the wall.
5/17/2013 Joe Mauer, C (Min) Mauer has a stiff back, keeping him out of the lineup for the series opener against Boston.

Analysis: Manager Ron Gardenhire said before Friday's game that Mauer woke up in the morning with discomfort. Gardenhire said Mauer could be available to catch in an emergency if Ryan Doumit were also hurt and that he hopes Mauer will be able to play Saturday. Mauer has a 14-game hitting streak, tied for the third-longest of his career. The 30-year-old is batting .446 during the run.
5/17/2013 Ian Kinsler, 2B (Tex) Kinsler is not in the starting lineup against the Detroit Tigers because of bruised ribs. Kinsler says his ribs were hurt when he was hit by a Justin Verlander pitch in third inning Thursday night against the Tigers. He remained in the game for rest of Texas' 10-4 victory.

Analysis: Kinsler has been hit by a pitch five times this season, tied for second in the American League. The three-time All-Star is hitting .302 with seven home runs and 20 RBIs this season.
5/17/2013 Danny Farquhar, P (Sea) The Mariners selected the contract of right-hander Danny Farquhar from Tacoma, where he was 0-1 with six saves and a 2.25 ERA in 15 appearances.

Analysis: To make room on the 40-man roster for Farquhar, right-hander Stephen Pryor was transferred to the 60-day disabled list.
5/17/2013 Curtis Granderson, CF (NYY) Granderson had three hits Thursday in a 3-2 loss to the M's.

Analysis: Fantasy owners should be thrilled to see Granderson is back and looking good so far.
5/17/2013 Hector Noesi, P (Sea) Noesi did not get a decision Thursday in a 3-2 win over the Yanks.

Analysis: The former Yankee allowed an unearned run over 4 1-3 innings in his much-anticipated return to the Bronx for the second time. The Mariners have optioned pitcher Noesi to Triple-A Tacoma.

Analysis: Morse is sizzling with nine hits in 15 at-bats. He dominated the Yanks' series, going 7 for 12.
5/17/2013 Jordan Walden, P (Atl) Walden was placed on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation to clear a spot for Jason Heyward.

Analysis: Walden has a 4.85 ERA in 14 games.
5/17/2013 Will Middlebrooks, 3B (Bos) Middlebrooks had a three-run double off closer Fernando Rodney with two outs in the ninth inning in Thursday's 4-3 win at Tampa Bay.

Analysis: With one swing of his bat under immense pressure, Middlebrooks had more RBIs than he did over his previous 15 games. It shows that baseball can be a funny game.
5/17/2013 Felix Doubront, P (Bos) Doubront did not get a decision in Thursday's 4-3 win at Tampa Bay.

Analysis: Doubront gave up two runs, three hits, six walks and had seven strikeouts over five-plus innings for the Red Sox, who are 6-9 in May. He threw 104 pitches, including 54 strikes. "I felt a lot better," Doubront said.
